The new SAP HANA 2 platform will include a host of tools to help users overcome digital transformation challenges.
New features and enhancements range from new database and data management tools plus developments in analytical intelligence, SAP announced at its recent TechEd summit in Barcelona.
Bernd Leukert, a member of the Executive Board for Products and Innovation at SAP, said the release of SAP HANA 2 represents a significant ‘milestone’ for the technology sector.
SAP HANA 2 is planned to be available for general release at the end of November 2016.
As part of the new platform, SAP expects to develop a number of next-generation applications with enhanced functionality for application servers, development tools and languages. These new developments will be delivered twice a year to customers to support agile IT departments.
“SAP pioneered in-memory computing with the launch of SAP HANA in 2010 and throughout our journey we have driven breakthrough innovation on a highly stable core data platform for our customers,” said Bernd Leukert.
“SAP HANA 2 marks a milestone in the industry, as it represents the next generation of SAP HANA that will propel customers toward a successful and prosperous digital future.”
New features in SAP HANA 2 include enhanced high availability, security, workload management and administration tools for database management; improvements to enterprise modelling, data integration, data quality and tiered storage; and new analytical processing engines for text, spatial, graph and streaming data for analytical intelligence.
Carl Olofson, Research Vice President at the IDC, said the new additions to the SAP HANA platform will help organisations “address the fast-changing aspects of digital business.”
He added: “SAP HANA 2 features new and enhanced functions that can enhance data management and accelerate application development for digital transformation.”
