Milner Browne deploys customised SAP Business One solution in six months at Addis Housewares
Addis Housewares has been supplying household and commercial items since 1780 and suppliers retailers such Dunelm, The Range, B&Q, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Argos, Robert Dyas, John Lewis and Waitrose.
But after its sister company was sold the Bridgend-based company was faced with an unsupported system and the prospect of having no automated tools to manage key activities.
With a six-month window to remove existing software and create a new bespoke solution to accommodate Addis’ extensive warehouse and supply chain requirements, Milner Browne was able to develop, deploy and maximise the use their new SAP Business One solution.
“We had run SAP R3 for about 13 years,” Richard Tucker, Financial Director at Addis, explained.
“But we knew we had to move. We had actually looked at SAP Business One and worked with Milner Browne previously and had a couple of demonstrations. We knew that SAP Business One was going to be more economical, more suited to a company the size of Addis. After the demonstrations we thought it would be the perfect fit for our organisation.”
As part of their bespoke solution, Addis selected Milner Browne’s B1 WMS add-on to help the company process orders and manage its warehouse activities. With around 1,000 stock taking units and sales of approximately 750,000 items a month, it was essential to create a streamlined and efficient warehouse and distribution solution.
“We’ve got a complex warehouse and the WMS tools are at the heart of that. Because of the limited timescale involved it was a bit worrying leading up to the go-live. But one of Milner Browne’s consultants spent about three or four weeks sitting in our warehouse making sure everything worked fine. We felt like our hand was very firmly held during the deployment process,” Richard said.
Although the company has only been working with SAP Business One for a short period of time, Addis has already experienced a number of benefits moving to SAP Business One.
“A lot of our processes are simpler now. In SAP R3, we felt we had a good system before. But SAP Business One is a very good, reliable system for us. It’s better suited to a medium-sized company like Addis.”
Alongside the expert development and implementation from Milner Browne, Addis also had the assistance of Milner Browne’s award-winning SAP Business One support team after the solution was rolled out.
“The support from go-live has been tremendous,” Richard continued. “A perfect example of this was when we had an issue one Saturday morning. Despite it being out of hours, Milner Browne were straight on it and resolved the issue and got the system fully functioning again. Whenever we’ve had an issue or a query they’ve had people there and then to help us.”
